Have you heard about "Bikini Boot Camp" - for mind, body & spirit?

A brainchild of Amansala - Eco Chic Resort, located on the beach of Tulum, Mexico, their six-night Bikini Boot Camp program limited to 25 men and women is offered year around.

(Three & Four night programs available upon request.)

"The resort's combination of fitness activities, spa treatments and eco-friendly surroundings has proven particularly popular with female travelers. [The low-key resort has already attracted celebrities such as Jude Law, Sienna Miller and Cindy Crawford.]"
Women come here to gain new perspective on life. The experience is more than the name bikini boot camp implies," co-owner Melissa Perlman says." USA Today 11/7/05

Six night program: $1842.00 (Single supplement: $700)

(without air and ground transportation)

includes: meals, accommodations, two bike excursions, kayaking, yoga & exercise classes (body sculpting, power ab sessions or pilates), all entertainment (e.g. tribal drumming, belly dancing, Flamenco), two massages & one Mayan clay treatment., tax and service.

And, an important communication to singles/solos:

"Many of our guests come alone and develop friendships that last long after their vacation is over. The village-like atmosphere provides the perfect balance of private time, yet with the ability to connect with other guests. You never feel odd being on your own here."

Love Irish folk music? Traditional Irish music? But don't play a fiddle? Prepare to turn shamrock-green with envy when you discover Theresa Bourke's Fiddlers Retreat in Ireland.

Glanced through a newspaper, listened to the radio or turned on the TV lately?

If so, "VocationVacations" probably rings a bell for you.

VocationVacations is the "vacation" with a twist a program designed for people who want to "try on" a "dream job" without giving up their day job. This is a terrific idea for anyone casting about for a new direction, yearning for a job change, tired of only dreaming about the perfect vocation, etc. and it just may be the quintessential solo travel gig!

No need to worry about the perfect traveling companion or what friends and family will think about your taking off on your own. (In all likelihood, they'll be envious and admiring; how many people actually live a dream?) A VocationVacation is necessarily an undertaking for "one." How else could you truly immerse yourself in a job as a fishing outfitter? An innkeeper? A winemaker?

VocationVacations (in business since January 2005) has also placed vacationers in "dream jobs" like horse trainer, raceway manager, wedding coordinator and baker. VocationVacations in the making include: play-by-play sports announcer, zookeeper, whiskey distiller, dogsledder and fashion model.

Packages range from $499 for something simple to about $5,000 for the week in Alaska with an outfitter. Programs are flexible, but most run about two days.

USA Today reporter Gene Sloan presented a day-by-day account of his fantasy job experiences as an innkeeper at the St. Bernards, an elegant bed-and-breakfast on the Oregon coast, in an article entitled, "So You Want to Run A Bed & Breakfast?" (July 30, 2005)

News From the Field:
September 15, 2004 There were hundreds of Pacific white-sided dolphins all around us, jumping out of the water 10 feet away from us . . .

SoloTravelPortal.com asked Northern Lights Expeditions answered:

We don't have single supplements on any of our trips. We just ask that solo travelers share a tent with someone of the same gender if needed.

For our lodge trips we do have the option of guaranteeing a single room for a $200 fee, otherwise we ask them to share a room with someone of the same gender.

I'd say about 1/3 of our guests are solo/single travelers. We typically have a couple solo travelers on each trip.
